Spray Booth Upgrades 2026

Well, its been a long time since I have posted and I have upgraded quite a bit to my homemade spray booth. Like the fountain pump, all these upgrades were through trial and error, so hopefully you can avoid my failures. Lol.
I started with making a new stand out of redwood. My stand sits outside unprotected so it has to deal with rain. I tried coating the bottom of it with a "spray on plastic" to help with it sitting in water when it rains and such. I don't know if it is helping, but I figured the precaution was worth the trouble. I thought the spray can would be helpful with other projects. It wasn't, so I'm not sure if I would buy it again. There is a paint can version of it, that I have used to coat paint brushes when their handles chip. I thought the spray can would be easier to use but the problem is that it puts so little of the paint on and you really need LOTS of coats. I guess I'm just too impatient to do that many coats. I guess that one is on me.

I noticed that the water on the walls was not pulling down enough glaze that I was spraying, so I ending with a large amount of glaze on me. At first I tried a small 6" exhaust fan from Home Depot. That worked well, but over time the glaze killed the motor. It took quite awhile, but I still wasn't very happy with the suction of the exhaust fan. After my second 6" fan, I decided to up my game and get a 8" exhaust fan. This one was actually designed to work with a hydroponic planting rooms, so it can handle moisture. It can suck more glaze up but there still is room for improvement. Finding the right fan might just be a work in progress.

I got tired to cleaning glaze out of my water hose. The irrigation hose is not very easy to unhook and clean. I decided PVC piping and connectors was worth the investment. I have to say cleaning these out is way easier. I just unscrew them and run clean water through them. Thus far, they don't clog as easily either.
I use my spray booth for the majority of my pieces and I find it working well. The only thing left on my list to address are the cords. Right now they go through the door, which isn't the end of the world, but if I get ambitious, I"ll put a hole in the wall for the cords to go through. Stay tuned!
